Paper Outline

by zach whalen

The outline is an important planning step in any writing process, especially for a longer paper like the one you are working on.

You may have done outlining before, and you are welcome to use whatever style you are most comfortable with. I recommend the "full sentence" format, personally. (Even though it's more common in speech writing, I find it helpful to think through my ideas in longer form. Also, it helps to start getting a sense of how your writing sounds.)

For the purposes of your outline grade, I'm just looking for something that is complete. That is, it has enough meat on its bones that it can sustain a 15 to 20 page paper. In most cases, this will mean at least three major points, with substantive subpoints for each, but I am not looking for a minimum or asking you to follow a specific organizational format for your writing.

Keep in mind, though, that organizational formats exist for a reason, and oftentimes it can be helpful to consult example outlines as you start organizing your thoughts.

Submission

To submit your outline, follow a method similar to how you created your bibliography page. Find your seminar paper proposal, and "Add a child page" wherein you can paste your outline contents.

Keep in mind that when you create content on this website, it will only have whatever formatting you put into it with HTML code, so if you want your outline to look nice, put it in some appropriately nested ordered list (also, see my comment here for some example code).
