Week 8: 3/8 -3/12 [Trimble, leelzebub]

These was our first week back from Spring Break. We wrapped up our discussion of Cryptonomicon, reviewed our experiences with the online game Uplink, and began reading Words Made Flesh. Below are quick briefings on some of the main discussion topics that came up in this week's classes; some topics have their own child pages for further notes.

Monday 3/8/2010

Outlines and Bibliographies for our final seminar papers were due today, so we opened class discussion with some brief questions and comments on our topics and progress so far.

Discussion for the rest of the class centered around representations and perceptions of hacking. See specifics here. As we have mentioned in class before, here were examples of the hacker as someone who is simply more efficient with computers and code, and not necessarily a malignant identity.

Wednesday 3/10/2010

Both parties responsible for taking notes this week were absent due to illness :(

Friday 3/12/2010

While beginning our discussion of Florian Cramer's Words Made Flesh we focused on exploring some of the people and works he references.
